About this book
This finds that a shortage of medium and heavy lift battlefield helicopters is undermining current operations. The Committee is critical of the plan to extend the lives of Sea King and Puma to bridge the capability gap that will exist before the introduction of the Future Medium Helicopter in about ten years' time. Given the age of these fleets and the poor survivability of the Puma, extending their lives at considerable cost is not the best option, either operationally or in terms of the use of public money. Only a procurement of new helicopters can meet the original objective of reducing the number of types of helicopter in service within the UK Armed Forces. The Committee praises the work of the Armed Forces personnel responsible for manning the helicopter fleet, but there is concern over the problems associated with manpower and harmony guidelines. There is an imbalance in the frequency of operational tours between squadrons from each of the three Services. The Report also notes the improvements in availability of key helicopters in theatre such as Chinook, which have benefited from closer working between industry and the Armed Forces. But increased availability and improved maintenance will be no substitute for additional capacity.

    Great 'copter, but some issues

update: after a week or so of use, the battery completely failed. My emails to the manufacturer have gone completely unanswered.----This is my first RC toy, ever, and though I'm not a kid any more, I had been looking forward to the package arriving like a kid would.I really enjoy flying the little hercules. It's fun, challenging, and full of surprise, and the little guy really can take an epic beating. But a few minor/major issues came up very quickly for me that would potentially make it a lot less fun for owners. I'm writing a review in hopes that World Tech steps up their game a bit, because their line of inexpensive RC flying toys with gyro goodness has a lot of potential. The first problem was really annoying. If you push the charger plug in with anything other than perfect alignment, you've got a really good chance of pushing the socket out of position, making it impossible to charge the copter until it's been disassembled and the... 3/5 stevie - See all my reviews = Durability:, December 10, 2012

    very low quality

While it lasted, this helicopter performed well, hovered perfectly, and was relatively easy to maneuver. The problem was that it only lasted two flights before the low quality design and manufacturing started to show up. The upper pinion gear (the one that powers the lower rotor) did not stay on the axle, and after putting it back on two times (very lucky to have found it), the plastic teeth had deteriorated to the point of not being functional. Very poor design, other reviewers have experienced the same problem. The outer body may indeed by "unbreakable," but the inner components (the ones that really need to work) are so poorly designed and so cheap, I'd be surprised if many of these helicopters achieve more than just a few flights before they stop working.Other problems with this model and manufacturer: takes between several seconds to two minutes for the controller to sync with the helicopter. The phone number for customer support rings to a "the voice mailbox is... 4/5 George Dyer - See all my reviews = Durability:, January 1, 2013

    Complete waste

Bought this from Groupon. It broke within the first 10 minutes of use on Christmas morning. My child never even got to touch it before it broke. My husband was figuring out how to work it, before handing it over to my son, who is 4. The bottom blades closest to the cab stopped working after my husband flew it around the living room twice. The "unbreakable" helicopter was never stepped on and never crashed - yet it was broken. I am past the 14 day return policy for Groupon, (since the Groupon came out in November and we did not open until Christmas morning) and when I called World Tech customer service I just got voicemail. I am holding out hope that Groupon, who up until this has been fantastic, will make this right. Meanwhile, my four year old, who has been asking for a remote control helicopter for TWO YEARS is a little perplexed at why Santa delivered such a poorly built toy. Don't waste your money. **UPDATE - Groupon is refusing to refund any money because it is past the 14 day... 5/5 meli - See all my reviews = Durability:, January 3, 2013

I was hopeful but that faded rather quick

Let me first say I am a big fan of WLToys Helicopter products. I own multiple V911s and v922s. Past positive experiences led me to making the purchase of the V912 Helicopter. While my v911s are very fun I was looking to go to a larger heli just to scratch an itch. Because I have had great experiences with both the v911 and v922 I expected the same from the v912. Below are my thought of the heli and then the reason for 3 stars and a return product.Unboxing: Out of the box I was like a kid on Christmas (I'm 30 but still a big kid). The helicopter looks fantastic. The body is very similar to the v911, but feels and looks so much stronger due to all of the metal parts. Although I was aware of the dimensions of the helicopter when I ordered it, seeing it in person my first thoughts were "wow this is big". The physical build quality is great and I have no doubts that the heli could take some punishment in the event a harder crash should happen. The remote was a very... 3/5 Dustin Spires - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Requires a bit of fine tuning...but a good start

For a first helicopter, I'd not suggest this..but rather, go with the V911. After you learn the basics of flying and crashing, you can move up to this flying bus. At about 16 inches long, you can really get some speed up but it's hard to stop on a dime like the V911 could.Overall you need to fine tune the product from the box. Level your swashplate by eye and then you're set to bind and fly. The stock battery gives you about 9 minutes flight time, but be sure to set a timer for 7 or 8 to give you time to land!I suggest going to HobbyKing and getting their "Hobbyking 2-8S Cell Checker with Low Voltage Alarm" Set it to 3.4 or so and do some testing at lower levels to see where you get after the alarm sounds. For me 3.3 is too low and only gives me about 30 seconds landing time. The unit needs to be balanced a bit but will fly none the less. There are plenty of prop balancers you can get at hobby or online shops. I'd suggest you get them... 5/5 Dave "Sonic" - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Worth every penny...Most AWESOME!

Customer Video Review Length:: 1:42 MinsLet me say, this is easily the most awesome thing I have ever owned. I received this helicopter as a 30th birthday present and my childhood dreams of becoming a helicopter pilot were once again restored! :) This thing looks, sounds, and maneuvers just like a real helicopter. The sound this thing makes alone was enough to impress me (a bit intimidating actually) and we had a blast chasing the cat around the yard with the heli :). It is quite agile for its size (this thing is large) but you have to remember you are moving more mass. So if you are in an aggressive forward flight, give some time and space to slow back down. Also, you want to make sure to give yourself plenty of open space. This thing is no toy and could easily hurt someone if the blades come in contact with skin (especially neck height..ouch). The box says 14years and up and I would definitely recommend you stick with that. With all of that positive stuff I will say, like... 4/5 E. Ridenour - See all my reviews, August 21, 2013

Best Heli EVER - NOT EVEN KIDDING

I have flown a LOT of R/C planes. Gas, Electric, Glider. I own an embarrassing amount of coaxial helis. This beats them all - No joke. You should know - I suck at flying helis. Badly. I fly them all the time in the Realflight Sim (Excellent BTW), and it ends in tragedy and disaster. Every time. Every. Time.I'm fairly good at flying coaxial helis, however. Pretty much anyone with a pulse would be. I think you could manage if you are missing an arm. They are fun for poking around the house at about 1ft/sec top speed, they will hover while you make yourself a sandwich, and supreme at playing 'what can I land on' games (The Syma 107 cannot be beat for that). I have some big ones for flying outside. They are terrible outside. I want to fly outside...Then I read glowing reviews about the v911. Beginners love it, CP Snobs sneer at it. Perfect. For under $50 I was in.When I got it in, I was concerned. The Syma 107 I have has... 5/5 Pandafish (FL) - See all my reviews = Durability:, August 7, 2012

    Extremely a blast to fly

Customer Video Review Length:: 2:06 MinsI have this model but in the black and orange color, wish I had got this blue and white model, this bird is easy to fly, very durable, handles breezes quite well, is quite fast almost too fast for inside use. after over 50 flights with this I have noticed one slight flaw, the swash plate center piece will rise up causing the helo to drift backwards, so just make sure to push it back down after each flight, there is a fix buy the nine eagles 260a pro swash plates for $3 and it will cure the problem I went ahead and spent the $9 and the nice light weight aluminum CNC parts for just cause they are cool looking. I am really hoping to get a second one (blue and white) to add to my already 9 helicopters. I did not buy mine from this seller I got mine from banggood.com and at that time for $45 its now $53, but so much better than it counterparts the align T-100s and the nine eagles 260a Pro and a whole lot cheaper also.3/21/12 got new 2nd one blus and... 5/5 Dan (aka THXkid) (Phoenix, Az United States) - See all my reviews = Durability:, March 4, 2012

    worth twice the price!!

I have been flying rc helis for many, many years. I have owned dozens and still own several. I mostly fly my 450 trex clones, however, I still love smaller helis for indoor flying during the long, cold winters that we have here in the mountains and for a change of pace from 450 size helis. The v911 is EXCEPTIONAL in every way. I cannot find any flaws with this heli.I live above 8000' and it still has power to spare. The build quality is very good. The supplied controller is also very good and even has dual rates.I consistently get 5 minute flight times. When I do fly it outside, I regularly fly it in winds to 5-6 mph and it is a blast and controllable.Inside, the v911 flys just fine also. The heli is very stable in flight and hovers well.I liked this heli so much that I ordered another one just like it.I have almost 100 flights on mine and all is still well. I have not crashed it but I'd bet that it is durable due to... 5/5 purnielou - See all my reviews = Durability:, September 11, 2012

Best Quadcopter to date for the money! The picture attached shows the SYMA quadcopter up about 200 feet or more. The house on the left with the orange roof is on a hill about 75 feet above me and my transmitter and as you can see I am way above that roof. I have 2 helicopters, 2 hubsan quadcopters, 1 with a 2mp camera and one without. I purchased the SYMA x5c from an Ebay seller who was in Calif. Didn't want to wait the 30-45days from China. The Syma came with the landing gear attached, I didn't need to install the blade guards because I am a veteran RC pilot. I used one of the already charged batteries from my hubsan. Yes they fit fairly well but flight time is less because they are only 380ma. The SYMA X5 flies great, better than the hubsan x4 and it is twice the size so you can see it better in the sky. Camera works great, the directions say to use the top right button but that is incorrect, the SYMA X5c is the newer model and there is a slide button on the front panel, slide it... 5/5 Danny K (Middletown, New Jersey) - See all my reviews This review is from: New Version Syma X5C 2.4G 6 Axis GYRO HD Camera RC Quadcopter RTF RC Helicopter with 2.0MP Camera By E-Trade Deal (Toy) Best Quadcopter to date for the money! A crash proof marvel of engineering

Great little drone. I suggest starting out in the middle of the floor of the largest room you have and taking it about 2 feet of the ground. Trim it so it doesn't drift right left forward or backward and then just practice moving it around WITHOUT CHANGING THE THROTTLE until you get the hang of it. It's easy to control but I'm still trying to get the hang of making it go the direction I want it to go when I'm not right behind it. I have about 10 batteries so I've probably flown it for several hours in the house. .I happen to be quite the expert in the crashworthiness of this particular drone, I have crashed it into just about everything in the house (including the back of my wifes head). I have partially submerged it in a sink full of dirty dish water and dishes (submerged one prop/motor completely, ran fine after that). My many crashes make it sound like it's hard to control but the truth is I just keep trying to do tougher and tougher maneuvers with it. Fun flying camera

0 4/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews This review is from: New Version Syma X5C 2.4G 6 Axis GYRO HD Camera RC Quadcopter RTF RC Helicopter with 2.0MP Camera By E-Trade Deal (Toy) It is as advertised and was delivered a week sooner than indicated. It was not to difficult to figure out how to fly it. The manual is as expected, broken English and not much good. As a professional videographer I wanted to test a" flying camera" before investing big$$. The video is barely HD which is fine for home use. The camera was pointed too far down so a slight modification (longer screws and a shim) made it more straight on.. Also I painted the forward underside black so I could tell which was the front end. Was able to shoot great video which I would love to post but..... I will be using a kitchen timer set at 4 minutes if I fly it again, so I have a warning BEFORE it runs out of juice! it is now resting at the top of a very tall tree. Be aware of privacy laws! posting video of people or private property without specific permissions is verboten. Great fun, good product. After 7 weeks in a tree it finally came down in a stiff wind. It still works! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , July 30, 2014

If you S026... This is just a fun continuation of that experience!

This is a fun continuation of the 3 Channel experience! The 3 channel is really a great place to get into remote controlled items that fly. Also, most any Syma 3 channel chopper is a great buy! When I first tried the S107 choppers it amazed me as to how stable they were. My 6 year old can even handle them with some practice (she, honestly is a better pilot that many of her older siblings!)!Anyway, this is really a larger version of the S026. If you are a beginner, you might start there! ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DVXI4U6/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )So, while some reviews for this chopper say it can work outside. Don't really plan on it. It must be a very calm, almost no wind. But that is also what makes it so easy to fly. If you have space enough, this can be 'trimmed' enough that it will hover very easily. This is great for the beginner so that you can get used to the controls without being so worried about it... 5/5 JB101 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) If you are a beginner, you might start there! Great little Quad at a great price!

Customer Video Review Length:: 2:11 MinsThis is a great flying little quad, although it has been fairly windy since this has been delivered I have still enjoyed it, it does fair in light wind but it is a very light little machine and a gust of wind will pick it up and carry it away fairly quickly, It's a tough little bird though, I hung it up in a tree yesterday and instead of freaking out I looked and saw how it was hooked to the tree then I flew it right off the branch fairly easily, then instead of getting hung up even further up the tree I let it fall the rest of the way down, it smacked just about every branch on the way down and really don't even have a scratch on it.The camera is a fairly decent little camera although I upgraded the MicroSD card fairly quickly, the 1gig card fills up pretty quick. I use a USB cable to copy the video files to my computer instead of taking the SD out every time I'm sure taking the card in and out so much will wear it out fairly quick... 4/5 KK4QBN (Chatsworth, GA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Remarkable Quad For The $$$

0 5/5 QuadFlyer01 "lanman" - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: UDI U818A 2.4GHz 4 CH 6 Axis Gyro RC Quadcopter with Camera RTF Mode 2 (Toy) This Quad is really very nice for the money. I paid $65 for the UDI 818A with camera included. I removed the safety canopy and replaced it with one I made from a plastic cup. This allowed the quad to be more agile due to less surface area contacting with the wind. I suggest the Turnigy 600mah batteries. These take about 45min to charge and give about 9min of flight time. Also, due to their discharge rate, they provide allot more response from a lower throttle position. The auto-stabilization is pretty extreme which make this great for someone learning to fly as well as a stable platform for taking pictures. The camera itself is nothing to write home about but it works as advertised. One thing to note is that this quad is virtually indistructable! Crash after crash, it continues to perform reliably. Out of the 9 quads I currently own, which range in price from $40 to $175, the UDI818A has proven itself to be the best overall value for my money. 0, May 6, 2014

    Great Starter QuadCopter

My first foray into multi-rotor flight. I picked this up as a starter set based on advice from a local users group that learning to fly is best done before investing in a copter that does all the work for you by relying on gps and altitude locks. You will need to actively fly the UDI U818A. It's stable in flight, but easily pushed around by the lightest breeze. It doesn't hold a specific location or altitude on its own. It worked right out of the box as soon as I had charged the flight battery. Be warned that there is plenty of power to send this flying quickly out of your control range, which will then cause it to loose synch and flutter lightly back to the ground (or tree top). The only damage mine has incurred is the occasional displacement of a prop shaft that needs to be pressed back into place to fully mesh the offset gearing. The on-remote trim switches can be used to dynamically adjust the stability of the quadcopter. You can zero out any slight side slipping or... 5/5 Scotte - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
